Trail Report: Hayward, Wisconsin – May 7, 2018

Trail Conditions: Good

Date of Report: May 7, 2018

Area Report:

We ALWAYS have a few trails always OPEN for ATVing and UTVing this time of the year when things are melting and soft, cold and warm… The Tuscobia Trail is OPEN and always a fun ride across southern Sawyer County.. passing thru area towns, woods, lakes, and streams.  There are great places along the ride – to stop for gas, lunch, shopping, even lodging…

However, all other ATV/UTV trails (Chequamegon National Forest, Sawyer County Forest, and the Flambeau State Forest) are CLOSED at this time.  Due to the abundance of snow we received only 3 weeks ago… and the very fast warm-up, conditions are changing quickly.  We’ll let you know as soon as we know any changes!

GOOD NEWS! the Chequamegon National Forest and the Flambeau Forest WHEN OPEN  are all open to UTV’s 65″ or less.  No restrictions in Sawyer County, but check map when riding into Bayfield County.

Miles and miles of trails to ride and the best restaurants and resorts to stop at! Get out and ride!!

  • Flambeau Trail System (70 miles)2018 SPRING OPENING IS DELAYED. NOTICE: The Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest has DELAYED OPENING THE MOTORIZED AND NON-MOTORIZED recreational trails (including the Flambeau Trail System) due to persisting snow pack. Conditions will be reassessed on May 1 and a status update will be posted to the CNNF website. Typically, crews are preparing the all-terrain vehicle (ATV), utility-terrain vehicle (UTV), horse and bicycle trails for a May 1 opening and campgrounds for a May 3 opening throughout the month of April. These preparations include removing hazard trees, cleaning campsite pads and preparing water systems. The CNNF asks for everyone’s understanding with the delay in opening this year.  Each year they work hard to get all of the campgrounds open in time for the opening of fishing season; unfortunately, Mother Nature is not cooperating this year. To check on the latest status of campgrounds and recreational trails go to http://www.fs.usda.gov/cnnf.
