Trail Report: Price County, Wisconsin – April 19, 2018

Trail Conditions: Early Season

Date of Report: April 19, 2018
Area Report:

Tuscobia State Trail (64 miles) is NOW OPEN. The Price County section of trail opened April 16, 2018 for the spring/summer/fall season. Up to 20 inches of snow fell in our area on April 14-15. The trail may be snow covered in some areas and it is not groomed. With high temperatures forecast to be in the 40s to 60s and lows to be mostly above freezing, the snow should melt and compact quickly.

Future scheduled trail openings may be delayed due to frost and snow. Call 715-339-4505 to confirm dates before traveling a long distance and to order an ATV map.

Flambeau Trail System and Solberg Trail – THE OPENING IS DELAYED/SEE NOTICE BELOW – typically opens May 1 and closes March 15
Georgetown Trail –  opens May 15 and closes March 15
Flambeau River State Forest Trail – opens May 15 and closes March 15
Price County Highway Routes – opens May 15 and closes October 15

NOTICE: The Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest will be delaying the opening of recreation trails and campgrounds due to persisting snow pack. Conditions will be reassessed on May 1 and a status update will be posted to the CNNF website.

Typically, crews are preparing the all-terrain vehicle (ATV), utility-terrain vehicle (UTV), horse and bicycle trails for a May 1 opening and campgrounds for a May 3 opening throughout the month of April. These preparations include removing hazard trees, cleaning campsite pads and preparing water systems.

The CNNF asks for everyone’s understanding with the delay in opening this year.  Each year they work hard to get all of the campgrounds open in time for the opening of fishing season, unfortunately Mother Nature is not cooperating this year.
