Trail Report: Antigo | Langlade County, Wisconsin – May 17, 2022

Trail Conditions: Early Season

Date of Report: May 17, 2022

Area Report:

The Langlade County ATV/UTV Trails are open except between intersection 43 at Fraley Road to Wallrich Road/Highway 64. Due to excessively wet conditions, this section is temporarily closed.  It is anticipated to reopen on May 23.  Keep checking back for updates. 

Expect early season riding conditions throughout the trail system.

Trail Report: Spooner / Washburn County Wisconsin – May 18, 2022

Trail Conditions: Closed

Date of Report: May 18, 2022

Area Report:

Washburn County ATV Trails will close on Thursday, March 17th. Due to the spring thaw, a closure for all ATV Trails has been adopted. Motor vehicle use on ATV Trails in prohibited through the first Friday before Memorial Weekend.

All trails will re-open Saturday Morning of Memorial Weekend.

In units of the forest open for motorized uses, ATV’s are also prohibited now through the First Friday before Memorial Weekend. The only exceptions to the spring closure are the Wild River Trail and the Railroad Grade to Shell Lake, which remain open unless DNR Fire Danger is rated at Very High or higher.

THE LANGLADE COUNTY ATV/UTV TRAIL SYSTEM INCLUDING STATE-FUNDED TRAILS ARE SCHEDULED TO OPEN AT 8:00 A.M. ON FRIDAY, MAY 13, 2022.

The Langlade County ATV clubs, sponsors, and operators of the existing trails, have put in many volunteered hours brushing and signing to provide ATV/UTV trails for your use. Please support the ATV clubs, thank them for their efforts and patronized their business sponsors.

As always, the Langlade County Forestry & Recreation Department recommends riders stay on clearly marked trails. Please respect private property; the use of trails across private lands is a privilege. Always exercise caution when riding an ATV or UTV and follow the WDNR ATV safety tips found at https://dnr.wisconsin.gov/topic/ATV/safety. Expect normal early season riding conditions.

Area Report:

THE LANGLADE COUNTY SUMMER ATV/UTV TRAIL SYSTEM INCLUDING ALL STATE-FUNDED TRAILS AND ROUTES WILL REMAIN CLOSED UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE.

Due to the continued cold and wet weather, the conditions on the Langlade County ATV Trail System are not currently suitable for traffic. Langlade County ATV Clubs are currently working to inspect, brush and sign trails for the 2022 riding season. It is anticipated that trail opening may occur on May 16, if conditions improve and trail clubs have appropriately prepared the trail system. Please keep checking the Langlade County Tourism Trail Report for updates on trial opening dates.

The Langlade County ATV/UTV clubs including the Antigo ATV Club, the Parrish Highlanders ATV Club, the Wolf River Riders ATV Club, the White Lake ATV Club, and sponsors and operators of the trails, are putting in many volunteered hours of brushing, signing, and trail work to provide ATV/UTV trails for your use in 2022. Trail Report: Hayward, Wisconsin – March 22, 2022

Area Report:

Here is a little ATV/UTV trail info ahead of the season. All trails in the Chequamegon National Forest (light green area on Sawyer County map) are closed 3/15 to 5/1. The county owned trails and county forest trails (forest is dark green will close 4/1 until approximately 5/15, however depending on the ground condition they will open earlier (usually 5/1), based on the lack of frost you can expect an early opening, we will update as spring moves forward and we get officially word from the forestry.

The Tuscobia (trail 10) is open and is a great ride! The trail runs east to west across the whole county. The 9 Mile Loop (trail 11) off the Tuscobia is county forest however, they do keep that open.  Main trail 777, portions of K and E, legally trail marked and trails along Gurno Rd, Rainbow, Highland, Williams, Indian Lake Rd to name a few on and near LCO are also open.

Area Report:

All official Washburn County ATV trails are considered open to year round use, with the exception of the spring closure from April 1 through the first Friday before Memorial Weekend.

Most snowmobile trails, on Washburn County Forest lands, are open for motor vehicle use under 900 pounds from December 1 through April 1.  This means that ATV’s are permitted on snowmobile trails that are not on private lands, during the winter months.  UTV’s are allowed on these same trails ONLY during non-groomed conditions. The Washburn County portion of the Wild Rivers Trail and the rail grade to Shell Lake are now open for UTV use during snow groomed conditions; These are the only trails open to UTV use once trail grooming is commenced.  Please note that the April 1 closure is flexible; Trails may close earlier depending on conditions.

Land use agreements with private landowners for snowmobile trails do not permit the use of ATV’s at any time of the year.

Winter access on snowmobile trails will be authorized by public service announcement when snowmobile trails are open and when required conditions are met.

Official Report: The majority of the Washburn County ATV Trails are OPEN with the exception of a portion of Trail 25 that closed on the 3rd Sunday of October. Trail conditions will be variable. Please tread lightly and PLEASE stay on the designated trail surface. As always, please ride with caution. If you encounter any washouts or trail issues, please call the Washburn County Forestry Office at 715-635-4490. 

Please note that beginning June 1, there will be detours in the Trego area due to a DOT project. Please travel slow and watch for directional signage. 

Trails will close if fire danger reaches “Very High” or higher, so be sure to check fire danger prior to riding. Current fire danger can be found on the DNR website: http://dnr.wi.gov/topic/forestfire/restrictions.html

Rolling Hills Snowmobile & ATV Club Reminder: Trail 7A from the Wild River Trail going west is closed! Contractors are working in that area. Please stay away to keep everyone safe!
