Chequamegon National Forest (light green on map) opens May 26th – this includes the dead horse.

What IS open now – the Tuscobia (trail 10). There are some washouts and trail work that will be planned but it is open, again the 9 Mile Loop off the Tuscobia is also open.
Roads/routes that are NOT forest roads are open.

LCO roads are NOT open yet. There needs to be a green light for signage to happen with the changes, we have not been given that yet and do not have an ETA, we hope soon and will update as soon as anything changes. These LCO changes will be reflected on Trail Treker, Avenza and Polaris once completed, they will NOT be reflected on the paper map until new maps come out late fall. There will also be good signage.

Until the 15th you are limited but there are trails to ride. Only about a week and the season will begin.

Trail Report: Hayward, Wisconsin – April 27, 2023

Trail Conditions: Closed

Date of Report: April 27, 2023

Area Report:

April 27, 2023

Our State, County and Federal forest trails are currently closed for annual spring thaw and will remain closed until further notice.

Depending upon how Mother Nature treats us this spring, each forest manager will let us know when their trails are open – usually around the beginning of May, and then we will report the openings to our ATV crowd.

Recent Updates as of 4/27/2023 :

Trail opening for the Chequamegon National Forest (light green area on map – includes the Dead Horse) has been postponed by forestry. Their official announcement reads as follows: “

Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest motorized trail re-openings will be delayed until May 25, 2023 due to weather-related safety concerns.
Due to safety and resource concerns caused by lingering snowpack and high water in areas, the re-opening of trails in the CNNF will be delayed until 5/25/23. Precautions are being taken to ensure trails are re-opened safely.”

Any questions please direct them to their forestry department via their Facebook Page – U.S. Forest Service – Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest or via email from their website https://www.fs.usda.gov/

In the meantime – make sure you are ready to ride!  See below about registrations and non-resident trail passes.

Be patient – we will all be hitting the trails soon!

Trail Report: Spooner / Washburn County Wisconsin – March 22, 2023

Trail Conditions: Open

Date of Report: March 22, 2023

Area Report:

All official Washburn County ATV trails are considered open to year round use, with the exception of the spring closure from April 1 through the first Friday before Memorial Weekend.

Most snowmobile trails, on Washburn County Forest lands, are open for motor vehicle use under 900 pounds from December 1 through April 1. This means that ATV’s are permitted on snowmobile trails that are not on private lands, during the winter months.  UTV’s are allowed on these same trails ONLY during non-groomed conditions. The Washburn County portion of the Wild Rivers Trail and the rail grade to Shell Lake are now open for UTV use during snow groomed conditions; these are the only trails open to UTV use once trail grooming is commenced. Please note that the April 1 closure is flexible, trails may close earlier depending on conditions.

Land use agreements with private landowners for snowmobile trails do not permit the use of ATV’s at any time of the year.
